چکیده

1 INTRODUCTION Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAV) form a comparably new area of aeronautical research. This type of aircraft is defined by takeoff weights typically less than 500 g and very small dimensions, e.g. wingspans under 50 cm. Intense research is conducted worldwide to further reduce MAV mass and size (e.g. Within this paper, this term is expanded to also include so-called miniature unmanned aerial vehicles (Mini-UAV), which comprise typically of aircraft with a wingspan of a few meters and several kg of takeoff mass. Most current MAV projects concentrate on size and mass but neglect autonomous operation which means a pilot on the ground has to control the aircraft manually. The main research activity at the Institute of Aerospace Systems (ILR) of the Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany, is the development of a fully autonomous MAV, operating without any intervention from ground.

Unmanned aerial vehicle field sampling and antenna pattern reconstruction using Bayesian compressed sensing

Antenna 3D pattern measurement can be a tedious and time consuming task even for antennas with manageable sizes inside anechoic chambers. Performing onsite measurements by scanning the whole 4π [sr] solid angle around the antenna under test (AUT) is more complicated. In this paper, with the aim of minimum duration of flight, a test scenario using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) is proposed. A pr...

Design Methodology of a Hybrid Propulsion Driven Electric Powered Miniature Tailsitter Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

Contrary to the manned tailsitter aircraft concepts, which have been shelved and forgotten after mid 1960’s, the unmanned versions of these concepts have become popular. Since, tailsitter type UAVs combine both vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) operation and relatively high speed cruise flight capabilities which provide manifest advantages over the other VTOL aircraft concepts, including heli...

Mapping Software Product Line Features to Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Models

An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is controlled by an embedded system that works autonomously by following commands stored in an internal computer. An UAV contains elements that may vary according to the domain application. Thus, such elements might be managed by the Software Product Line (PL) approach. UAVs and PLs use different tools for managing their specifications and models. Therefore, thi...

JSBSim Library for Flight Dynamics Modelling of a mini-UAV

This paper presents using of JSBSim library for flight dynamics modelling of a mini-UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). The first part of the paper is about general information of UAVs and about the fundamentals of airplane flight mechanics, forces, moments, and the main components of typical aircraft. The main section briefly describes a flight dynamics model and summarizes the information about JS...

Reactive Collision Avoidance for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Using Doppler Radar

Research into reactive collision avoidance for unmanned aerial vehicles has been conducted on unmanned terrestrial and mini aerial vehicles utilising active Doppler radar obstacle detection sensors. Flight tests conducted by flying a mini UAV at an obstacle have confirmed that a simple reactive collision avoidance algorithm enables aerial vehicles to autonomously avoid obstacles. This builds up...
